Mark Shekhman, MD
Dr. Mark Shekhman comes to the Hartford community with extensive training at internationally renowned medical programs. After receiving his Bachelors of Science from the University of Western Ontario he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and received additional elective training in hip replacement surgery at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital in Exeter, England. Devoting a special interest in disorders of the hip and knee he went on to complete a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement at The Hospital for Special Surgery, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. He began solo practice in the Hartford area in 2008 and later merged his practice with the Orthopedic Associates of Hartford.
Dr. Shekhman is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He specializes in disorders of the hip and knee with interests in minimally invasive surgery including hip and knee arthroscopy, rapid-recovery hip and knee replacement, partial (uni-compartmental) knee replacement and complex revision total joint replacement. He is one of the few surgeons in the region with expertise in Birmingham Hip Resurfacing.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Connecticut Orthopedic Society, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
In addition to his clinical practice he served as the Co-Director of the Joint Center at Hartford Hospital and is an integral member of the Joint Replacement Service Line of the new Bone and Joint Institute devoted to process and quality improvement initiatives. He enjoys teaching orthopedic residents and holds rank of Assistant Professor through the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. In 2013, Dr. Shekhman was honored by the Arthritis Foundation for his contributions to his community.
When not helping patients he is an avid mountain biker, hiker, skier, and enjoys working on home improvement projects. He lives in the greater Hartford area with his wife and three rambunctious sons.
