Dr. Gordon Zimmermann was born in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Georgetown University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Zimmermann was among the first surgeons to perform arthroscopic surgery in the state of Connecticut. He has been practicing orthopedics in Hartford for over 35 years, and has performed over ten thousand knee and shoulder arthroscopic procedures and over seven thousand knee replacements. He has been the president of Orthopedic Associates of Hartford (OAH) since 2001.
During his tenure, OAH has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious full service orthopedic groups in New England. He is the director and founding member of the Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center, and a founding member of the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute, and Glastonbury Surgery Center.
Based on the vision of Dr. Zimmermann and Mr. Jeff Flaks, Chief Operating Officer of Hartford Healthcare, OAH and Hartford Hospital entered into a co-management agreement. In January 2017 they together opened the Bone and Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital. This one of a kind facility is the only freestanding hospital in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions dedicated solely to comprehensive orthopedic care. Dr. Zimmermann has been recently recognized as one of the top Orthopedic Surgeons in the United States by US News and World Report. He is perennially recognized by his peers as one of the top orthopedic surgeons in our state in the Connecticut Magazine, Hartford Magazine, and other publications.
Dr. Zimmermann resides in Farmington with his wife Kimberly, and has three grown daughters. His personal interests include golf, auto racing, tennis, and animal rescue.
