Dr. Michael A. Miranda Named Physician-in-Chief of the Bone & Joint Institute

Orthopedic Associates of Hartford is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael A. Miranda has been named Physician-in-Chief of the Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital (BJI). Dr. Miranda has served as Interim Physician-in-Chief since April 1, 2024, and now officially assumes the role in a permanent capacity.
Dr. Miranda brings extensive experience in orthopedic trauma, joint replacement, and shoulder reconstruction surgeries. As orthopedic trauma service line director at BJI and a clinical professor at the University of Connecticut, he has played a key role in advancing orthopedic care, education, and research.
In this leadership role, Dr. Miranda will oversee a diverse team of surgeons, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers. He is committed to fostering a collaborative and innovative environment while advancing a data-driven culture that enhances clinical outcomes and academic achievement.
This appointment reflects the unique relationship between Orthopedic Associates of Hartford and the Bone & Joint Institute, now in its 10th year. Through a co-management agreement, OAH physicians work closely with Hartford HealthCare leadership to shape patient care, improve clinical quality, and achieve performance metrics. This model allows the Physician-in-Chief to lead strategically while maintaining an active clinical practice and supporting ongoing innovation. Dr. Miranda’s appointment reinforces BJI’s position as a regional leader in musculoskeletal care and highlights OAH’s continued commitment to excellence in orthopedic surgery, research, and education.
