Orthopedic Associates of Hartford Welcomes Dr. Petar Yanev, Interventional Physiatrist
HARTFORD, Conn., September 15, 2025 – Orthopedic Associates of Hartford (OAH), one of Connecticut’s largest and most respected orthopedic specialty groups, is proud to welcome Petar Yanev, MD, a board-certified physiatrist fellowship-trained in interventional pain medicine, to its team of expert physicians dedicated to comprehensive orthopedic and rehabilitation care. Dr. Yanev focuses on reducing pain and restoring movement, function, and quality of life through non-surgical treatments for conditions involving the spine, nerves, muscles, joints, and tendons.

Dr. Yanev earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, with a minor in Russian Language and Literature, from the College of William & Mary. He completed a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University School of Medicine, followed by his medical degree from the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MedStar Georgetown University/National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC, where he trained in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided interventions, electrodiagnostic medicine, and orthobiologic treatments, including platelet-rich plasma. He gained extensive experience caring for patients with sports medicine and chronic pain conditions. During residency, Dr. Yanev also trained at the NIH Rehabilitation Medicine Department and the NCCIH Pain Research Center, completed the Georgetown Global Health Track, engaged in health policy and advocacy work on Capitol Hill, and received several teaching awards.
Following residency, Dr. Yanev completed a fellowship in interventional pain medicine at the University of Virginia, where he received advanced training in procedures such as basivertebral nerve ablation, balloon kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, and peripheral nerve stimulation.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Dr. Yanev brings a global perspective to his practice.
