Orthopedic Associates of Hartford Expands Access to Specialized Orthopedic Care Across Connecticut
Four new fellowship-trained physicians strengthen OAH’s expertise across key orthopedic specialties
HARTFORD, Conn., September 9, 2026 – Orthopedic Associates of Hartford (OAH), one of Connecticut’s largest and most respected orthopedic specialty groups, has expanded its physician team with the addition of four fellowship-trained specialists: Nicholas J. Bellas, MD (trauma and fractures), Colin J. Burgess, DO (sports medicine), Barrett B. Torre, MD (hip and knee replacement), and Robert L. Zondervan, DO, PhD (hand and upper extremity).
The addition of four new physicians further expands OAH’s ability to provide comprehensive orthopedic care and advanced treatment options to patients across Connecticut. The physicians bring expertise in treating a broad range of orthopedic conditions and injuries, from complex fractures and sports injuries to joint replacement and conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity.
Dr. Bellas is an orthopedic trauma surgeon specializing in trauma and fractures, nonunions/malunions, and fragility fractures. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut before pursuing a fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at Denver Health, where he received advanced training in pelvic and acetabular injuries, fracture nonunions and malunions, and other traumatic musculoskeletal injuries. His expertise includes pelvic and acetabular fractures, fragility fractures, and periprosthetic fractures, using both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr. Burgess is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who treats conditions and injuries affecting the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle. He specializes in shoulder and knee surgery, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures, rotator cuff repair, ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair, treatment for shoulder instability, and partial and total joint replacement. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwell Health and the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell before pursuing a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia, where he received additional training in sports-related injuries and arthroscopic techniques.
Dr. Torre is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction with a focus on hip and knee replacement. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut before pursuing a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he received advanced training in primary and complex hip and knee replacement. His expertise includes anterior and posterior hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement, robotic-assisted and minimally invasive joint replacement, and complex revision hip and knee replacement.
Dr. Zondervan is a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon specializing in conditions affecting the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow. He provides comprehensive care for fractures, tendon and ligament injuries, nerve compression syndromes, arthritis, sports injuries, and work-related conditions. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at Michigan State University, where he served as chief resident, he completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Connecticut. His background also includes research, innovation, and medical education, including research in fracture healing and musculoskeletal biology.
