Biography
Dr. Clifford Rios is a Connecticut native. He grew up in South Windsor and attended the University of Connecticut where he studied physiology and neurobiology and graduated as class Valedictorian. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Rios obtained sub-specialty training in advanced arthroscopy and orthopedic sports medicine at the UHZ Sports Medicine Institute in Coral Gables, Florida. Here, he worked as assistant team physician for the Florida Panthers professional ice hockey team and Florida International University, and provided orthopedic care for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and members of the Jamaican Olympic Team.
Dr. Rios returned to Connecticut to join Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, P.C. in 2010. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and has obtained additional subspecialty board certification in sports medicine. He is team physician for Trinity College Athletics, as well as Avon, Hall, and Conard High Schools in West Hartford. He specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery, as well as fracture care. Particular interests include complex knee ligament reconstruction, meniscus and cartilage repair and restoration, as well as treatment of rotator cuff disease and instability of the shoulder. Since joining Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, Dr. Rios has performed thousands of arthroscopic and other sports medicine procedures.
Dr. Rios has authored multiple journal articles and book chapters, and his research has been presented at national orthopedic surgery conferences. His professional affiliations include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Connecticut Orthopedic Society. Dr. Rios regularly attends national meetings and courses to remain current with the latest techniques and trends in orthopedic care. Dr. Rios is married with one daughter and twin boys and lives in Farmington. Personal interests include family, travel, skiing, and ice hockey.
