Biography
Dr. Witmer is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon who grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He graduated with a degree in Biology from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, and was a member of the Bears’ Football, Wrestling, and Track & Field teams. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the George McClellan Surgical Honor Society. He then came to Connecticut to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Connecticut, where at graduation he was presented with the Cavazos Award for Most Outstanding Resident. He went on to complete a one-year fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement at Indiana University under the direction of Dr. Michael Meneghini. He is thrilled to be returning to Connecticut to practice and serve the greater Hartford community.
During his fellowship, he was trained in complex hip and knee replacement and revision surgery, computer assisted surgery, cementless and partial knee replacement, and rapid recovery techniques enabling outpatient joint replacement for optimized patient recovery. His clinical interests include cementless knee technology, joint kinematics, and treating fractures and complex problems around existing hip and knee replacements. He has authored numerous publications and book chapters, and has presented his work at national conferences. He serves as a review for the journal Arthroplasty Today. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Connecticut Orthopedic Society.
Dr. Witmer is married and has two young children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, fishing, and playing sports.
