Matthew J. Pina, MD
Biography
Dr. Matthew Pina is an Orthopedic Hand Surgeon with clinical interests encompassing operative and non-operative treatments for hand and upper extremity conditions, including fractures, sports injuries, nerve compression, and arthritis. He strongly advocates patient-centered care, emphasizing shared decision-making and personalized treatment plans that consider all options beyond surgery.
Dr. Pina was born and raised in Ludlow, MA. He graduated with honors in Neuroscience from Brown University in Providence, RI. He then earned his Doctorate in Medicine from Boston University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Following this, he completed his Orthopedic Residency at the University of Connecticut.
Continuing his training, Dr. Pina completed a Hand and Microsurgical fellowship at the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand & Microsurgery in Louisville, KY. There, he specialized in treating hand, wrist, and elbow disorders, and dedicated significant time to performing microvascular surgery. He is also experienced in wide-awake hand surgery and has published multiple papers on this topic.
Dr. Pina is excited to care for patients in the Greater Hartford Area and to return to Connecticut, where he will be closer to his beloved Boston sports teams. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking and exploring National Parks across the country, cooking, and spending quality time with his family.
