Biography

Dr. Mark Shekhman came to the Hartford community with extensive training in internationally renowned medical programs.  He earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He then advanced hip training at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital in Exeter, England.  With a dedicated focus in disorders of the hip and knee, Dr. Shekhman went on to complete a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City.  In 2008, he joined Hartford HealthCare Medical Group (Division of Orthopedic Surgery) and later merged his practice with the Orthopedic Associates of Hartford.

Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, he treats complex hip and knee conditions and is highly experienced in outpatient same-day joint replacement, robotic-assisted surgery, partial replacements, patellofemoral arthroplasty, hip resurfacing, arthroscopy, and revision surgery. He was among the first surgeons to bring outpatient joint replacements to Connecticut and is one of the few in the region skilled in both Birmingham Hip Resurfacing and anterior hip replacements, offering patients a wide range of personalized options.

Dr. Shekhman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS) as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and Connecticut Orthopedic Society.

When not helping patients, he’s an avid mountain biker, hiker, skier, and enjoys working on home improvement projects.  He lives in the Greater Hartford area with his wife, three sons, and two Labrador Retrievers.
