Biography

Dr. Petar Yanev is a board-certified physiatrist with fellowship training in Interventional Pain Medicine. His practice focuses on reducing pain and restoring movement, function, and quality of life through non-surgical treatments for conditions involving the spine, nerves, muscles, joints, and tendons. He believes that effective care requires compassion, a strong alliance between patient and physician, and a tailored approach that emphasizes realistic goals.

Dr. Yanev earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, with a minor in Russian Language and Literature, from the College of William & Mary. He completed a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University School of Medicine, followed by his medical degree from the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MedStar Georgetown University/National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC, where he trained in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided interventions, electrodiagnostic medicine, and orthobiologic treatments, including platelet-rich plasma. He gained extensive experience caring for patients with chronic pain and sports medicine complaints as well as spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputation, and cancer-related impairments. During residency, he also trained at the NIH Rehabilitation Medicine Department and the NCCIH Pain Research Center, completed the Georgetown Global Health Track, engaged in health policy and advocacy work on Capitol Hill, and received several teaching awards.

Dr. Yanev then completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at the University of Virginia, receiving advanced training in procedures including basivertebral nerve ablation, balloon kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty, minimally invasive lumbar decompression, and peripheral nerve stimulation.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and raised in St. Petersburg, FL, Dr. Yanev brings a global perspective to his practice. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing tennis, yoga, weight training, and exploring his new locale of New England.
