Biography

Dr. Robert Carangelo has been in practice for over 20 years in Connecticut.  He specializes in primary and revision of total joint reconstruction including the shoulder, hip, and knee.  Emphasis is placed on joint preservation techniques such as cartilage transplantation, partial and patellofemoral knee arthroplasty.  He is the Medical Director of The Center for Joint Care at the Hospital of Central Connecticut.

He also performs arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder and treats sports medicine injuries.  He currently serves as the team doctor for Kingswood Oxford in West Hartford.

He attended Brown University and graduated with honors in Biology.  While in medical school at the University of Connecticut, he participated in the surgical scholars program and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, followed by a General Surgery internship at Georgetown University, surgical fellowship in the Department of Cell Biology at Yale University, and an orthopedic residency at the University of Connecticut. He then completed the AuFranc Fellowship in Adult Total Joint Reconstructive Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Carangelo is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Eastern Orthopedic Society, Connecticut Orthopedic Society, Connecticut State Medical Society and Hartford County Medical Association. 

He resides in West Hartford with his wife and three children.  He enjoys cycling and alpine mountaineering.
