Biography
Dr. Colin J. Burgess is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who treats conditions and injuries affecting the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. He specializes in shoulder and knee surgery, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures, rotator cuff repair, ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair, treatment for shoulder instability, and partial and total joint replacement. His expertise also includes shoulder replacement as well as MAKOplasty knee replacement and the treatment of upper and lower extremity fractures.
A native of Manchester, Connecticut, Dr. Burgess attended Manchester High School before earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut. He received his medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Northwell Health and the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, where he received multiple Resident of the Year awards and served as Chief Resident during his final year. He then pursued a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia, where he received additional training in sports-related injuries and minimally invasive, arthroscopic techniques.
Having grown up in the Greater Hartford community, Dr. Burgess is committed to providing personalized orthopedic care to the region that helped shape him. He works closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual injury, lifestyle and goals, helping them return to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Burgess is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and red fox Labrador, as well as golfing, staying active and traveling.
