A worst-case scenario is a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), which can sideline an athlete for a season and even end their career.

Dr. Fulkerson was keynote speaker at the Michigan Orthopedic Society meeting in Detroit October 26. He addressed over 200 orthopedic surgeons on current concepts of patella instability treatment. Dr. Fulkerson was guest of Dr. James Bicos, former sports medicine fellow at University of Connecticut and program director for the meeting. Additionally, Fulkerson gave grand Rounds at the Beaumont medical center where he is with their orthopedic surgery residents and faculty in this picture.

Dr. Theodore A. Blaine is recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in orthopedics. He completed his medical school training at UCONN, post-doctoral training at Brown and Yale, and an orthopedic surgery residency and fellowship in orthopedic research at the University of Rochester. He went on to complete a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow/Sports Medicine at Columbia University and served as a visiting fellow in Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Blaine has a broad range of experience in academic, clinical, research and administrative roles at leading academic institutions. He joins us from Yale where he is currently serving as the Interim Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, as well as Chief of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He serves as team physician for Yale Athletics.

Dr. Blaine currently performs the highest volume of shoulder replacement operations in Connecticut and has an excellent reputation for quality outcomes in these surgeries. He has received numerous postgraduate honors and teaching awards and is consistently elected as one of the Best Doctors in America. He is widely published and recently founded and serves as Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty.

Dr. Blaine looks forward to seeing patients in the Hartford area starting in January. He will operate at the state-of-the-art Bone and Joint Institute, and at Hartford and Rocky Hill outpatient surgical centers.
